Laser crystal is the crystal which can radiate laser. Laser refers 

to a bouquet of powerful beam that are made use of material in the 

majority of particles at the excited state, with the outside world 

light sensors, so that all particles in the excited state by 

stimulated emission at the same time. 
     Laser has a good direction, monochrome and coherence, and 

these characteristics make it have been widely applied in all aspects 

of society. 
     Laser crystal was composed of two parts, one part is the 

"luminous center" activation ions, the other part is activated ion 

as a "vector" of the crystal matrix. oxide crystals is the most 

important in Crystal matrix, these crystals have the unique advantages 

of high melting point, hardness, and good thermal conductivity, etc. 

Among them, ruby and yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) are used  most 

widely , there is also another one  called "color center" matrix 

crystals, because their lattice defects can absorb a spectral range 

of visible light and show some color, they can achieve tunable 

laser oscillation.

 In addition to the traditional crystal lasers, laser crystals 

are developed to the two extremist direction: super-large and 

ultra-small. super-large laser is Mainly used crystal laser fusion, 

laser isotope separation, laser processing and other fields, and the 

ultra-small crystal laser mainly refers to the semiconductor laser, 

because of the advantages of its high efficiency pump, the low heat 

load on the crystal, good stability of laser output, long life, 

small size and so on, it will have a huge development in practical application 

in the future.
